So, here I am in London…and I’ve been doing a bit of research to see what the Pom’s take is on things – I have put together a few bits and pieces to help you along your way to achieving your fitness & health goals….lets start with some interesting stats…

Bullying…One Effect of Obesity on Children (Part 1)

I’m sure we have all seen 15 year old Casey Haynes fighting back after years of bullying by dropping his attacker – Ritchard Gale, who is 3 years younger and half the size of Casey to the floor. It was a case of David & Goliath, except in reverse! I think this shows how its not all about size and age as to who does the bullying. I remember one of the biggest bullies at my school was quite small, but had a huge (aggressive) personality, which made much larger pupils scared of him. Click here to read on…

Is Vitamin D deficiency making your child fat?.

There has been a lot of press lately about the population being deficient in Vitamin D – in fact, up to 80% of the Australian population are said to have insufficient levels. 1.

Now we know that Vitamin D plays an intrinsic role in calcium metabolism,the immune and nervous system, bone, heart and kidney health, but in recent research from South America, it is also being linked to obesity in children (in a study by the University of Michigan, pub. in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition). Over a 2 1/2 year period, it was found that as their Vitamin D dropped, their fat layers went up. Of course the flip side is that fat also absorbs Vitamin D, which could be a reason why larger kids may have less Vitamin D in their blood!
